Summmer Festival Season Has Arrived

Sleepers and Dreamers, a new work for chorus and orchestra by Sebastian Currier, will be premiered at Chicago's Grant Park Music Festival in July. The new work explores the mysterious world of sleep, once again demonstrating the composer's ability to portray science through music. MORE

The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, California's annual showcase of new music, celebrates its 50th season with works by Osvaldo Golijov and the world premiere of Woman of the Apocalypse by James MacMillan. MORE

The music of Harrison Birtwistle, Elliott Carter, David Del Tredici and Sean Shepherd will be featured at Tanglewood's Festival of Contemporary Music, during the festival's 75th summer season. MORE

John Adams's Other Mary

The Gospel According to the Other Mary, a new large-scale oratorio by John Adams, was premiered at the Los Angeles Philharmonic in May and has already been hailed a "masterpiece" (LA Times). The staged version is presented on an international tour in Spring 2013, with performances in Los Angeles, London, Lucerne, Paris and New York. MORE

Following its world premiere in May, the National Symphony Orchestra presents Sean Shepherd's new concert opener Blue Blazes in Trinidad and Tobago and Brazil on a concert tour of the Americas in June. MORE

Unsuk Chin

The tales of Alice in Wonderland have long been an inspiration for composers. Unsuk Chin is no exception, as her realization of this fantasy-filled and celebrated work receives its US premiere at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, June 13-23. Lewis Carroll's surreal landscapes and characters are brought to life by OTSL Artistic Director James Robinson and conductor Michael Christie. MORE

Moonrise Kingdom

Britten on the Silver Screen

The soundtrack to Wes Anderson's new feature film Moonrise Kingdom is rich in music by Benjamin Britten, whose centenary is celebrated in 2013. Anderson revealed at it's opening that "the Britten music had a huge effect on the whole movie." Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra is heard throughout the movie, in addition to a staging of his opera for children Noye's Fludde. MORE
