Elliott Carter
At 102 years old, Elliott Carter is showing no signs of slowing down. Seven world premieres have been performed or are scheduled for 2011 alone, including String Trio (for violin, viola and cello) at a special 103rd birthday concert at New York's 92nd Street Y on December 8. His Flute Concerto, written at age 100, was recently heard at Lincoln Center and called "rhapsodic and brilliant" by the New York Times. The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs the work next at home and on tour in San Francisco. Five chamber works (including Gra, Figment, and Duettino) were recently choreographed for the first time at the Guggenheim Museum's Works and Process series. Additionally, Slovenia's Slowind Festival will celebrate the composer with five concerts over 10 days, along with presenting the world premiere of Trije glasbeniki (for flute, bass clarinet and harp). Watch Elliott talk about his life and work on BooseyTube.
