One of the most multi-faceted and prolific jazz composers of our time * Pioneering artist both as keyboardist (piano, electric piano, synthesizer) and composer-arranger * Twelve-time Grammy Award winner and 2006 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master * Early influences include Beethoven and Mozart as well as Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell * Collaborated with many of the jazz giants of the 20th century, most notably with trumpeter Miles Davis * In 1972 formed the landmark fusion band Return To Forever * Among his many well-known compositions, Spain, La Fiesta, Windows, and Now He Sings, Now He Sobs are considered jazz standards * Works flow seamlessly from electric to acoustic settings and incorporate elements of jazz, classical, fusion, rock-pop, and Brazilian-Latin music * Most recent orchestral work, Piano Concerto No. 2 —The Continents, commissioned by the Vienna Jazz Festival in honor of the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, was premiered by the composer, his group, and the Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie; tour performances followed in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Turkey.
