Repertoire Note

This setting of Time by Shelley, composed in 1943, is the earliest known example of Goldschmidt setting an English text. It was later incorporated into the second act of the opera Beatrice Cenci (1949-50) where it serves as a particularly memorable aria for Lucrezia.
