Composer's Notes      Deutsch
Cameron Retchford’s sudden death in January 2003 was cause for much sadness throughout the Australian classical music community. I remember with great fondness playing alongside Cameron in both the Queensland Youth Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, where he was principal cellist for many years. He was a dear friend, a wonderfully humorous person and an extremely fine cellist.  This single movement work, Between Moments, with its prominent role for solo cello, is a simple memorial to Cameron. This is mostly quiet, reflective music motivated by a tragic occurrence, though I hope I may have been able to catch that eternally youthful and somewhat mischievous twinkle in his eye here and there.
