Repertoire Note With A Fiddler's Tale, Wynton responds to Stravinsky’s famous L’Histoire du soldat (A Soldier's Story) from the perspective of later twentieth-century music, including but not limited to jazz. A Fiddler's Tale was commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as a joint project of the Chamber Music Society and Jazz at Lincoln Center. A Fiddler's Tale premiered on April 23, 1998 at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
