A Ginastera CD sampler is now available from Boosey & Hawkes which, together with a new brochure, provides a full introduction to this fascinating composer. Ginastera’s music, always vivid in its rhythmic impulse, ranges from the energetic depiction of South American life on the Pampas heard in his early works, to the richly coloured and finely wrought serial structures of his later output.
The CD opens with his early ballets Panambí and Estancia (which can be heard complete on a recent BMG release - Conifer Classics 76505 51336 2), takes us through his concertos for harp, piano, violin and cello, and symphonic scores premiered by the likes of Kleiber, Ormandy, Markevitch and Rostropovich, to end with his final work Popul Vuh depicting the creation of the Mayan world.
