David Benoit's Earthglow Sounds Around the Globe
(May 2010)
David Benoit's Earthglow Sounds Around the GlobeDavid Benoit’s provocative, eclectic 11-track CD Earthglow (Heads Up International) takes a decidedly global musical direction, marking the first set of original material from the pianist-composer Benoit in four years. The title track was inspired by the captivating satellite NASA photograph of our planet which graces the cover.
On Earthglow, listeners can take in first-hand Benoit’s ever-widening range of influences, including Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas for which Benoit wrote “Will’s Chill,” a cool Latin-bossa sonic pleasure. Also, from the composer himself, “I was interested in experimenting with some of the new ‘jazz-lounge-Euro-chill’ music I was hearing at upscale boutique hotels and chic Japanese sake bars.”
Benoit also delves into world beat rhythms on "Botswana Bossa Nova." He says, “I loved the world mix of exotic ethnic percussion, African voices along with Brazilian beats.”
Earthglow resounds with the irresistible appeal of classic Benoit cuts chock full of old-school soul-jazz yet invites its listeners into an increasingly current global world beat texture. Fans old and new have the opportunity to experience David Benoit as multi-faceted composer-artist-pianist who deftly and tastefully reaches across styles, boundaries, and flavors.
Currently on a multi-date tour, sponsored by Steinway & Sons, David Benoit maintains an active conducting life as Music Director of the Asia America Symphony Orchestra and the Asia America Youth Orchestra in Northern California. This fall, Benoit will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at The American Smooth Jazz Awards and embark on a comprehensive Charlie Brown Christmas tour, enriching the lives of young and old alike across the country at major concert stages and with a special evening at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York.
