Schwertsik's Shrunken Symphony launches new millennium

(January 2000)

A complete four-movement symphony in under six minutes? Yes, in Kurt Schwertsik’s recent Shrunken Symphony (Schrumpf-Symphonie), now available on sale as a study score. This orchestral squib was composed for an Eve of the New Millennium concert with the Camerata Academica Salzburg conducted by Roger Norrington, and ushered in the year 2000 with tongue firmly in cheek.

Shrunken Symphony could add irreverent spice to a standard classical chamber orchestra programme, would work well as an overture before Viennese repertoire, or could be equally at home in a concert of light music.
