US Festival Preview: Tanglewood, Cabrillo and La Jolla

(June 2013)

Boosey & Hawkes makes strong showing this summer at festivals across the US

Summer is a big season for Boosey & Hawkes this year. Festivals across the United States—Aspen, Cabrillo, and Tanglewood, among others—have programmed a plethora of works by some of the most recognized composers of the 20th and 21st centuries with B&H composers at the forefront.

Taking place August 2–11 in Santa Cruz, the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music will highlight works by Enrico Chapela, Anna Clyne, Brett Dean, Magnus Lindberg, and Christopher Rouse. Friday, August 2 will feature the West Coast premiere of Rouse’s Symphony No. 3 and Saturday, August 3 will feature the US premiere of Dean’s Fire Music, both performed by the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop. Esteemed conductor Marin Alsop continues her tenure as Music Director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, a role she has filled since 1992. Music for 18 Musicians, the 20th-century masterwork by Steve Reich (a former Tanglewood faculty composer) will be performed by Tanglewood Music Center fellows on Sunday, August 11. The Aspen Music Festival (June 27 – August 18) has programmed a significant celebration of Benjamin Britten this summer in observance of the composer’s centenary. The Festival will also feature performances of works by Dean, Rouse, Bernstein, Golijov, Górecki, Bartók, Stravinsky, and others. For more information on scheduled concerts, click here.

From July 31 – August 23, La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest will present a series of concerts featuring some of the most sought-after artists currently on the circuit.
