Franz Biebl was born in 1906 and died in 2001. Ave Maria was first published in 1964 in Dortmund, Germany, for seven-part men’s voices. The version utilized in this transcription, however, is the version for mixed choir selected because it better matches the registration of the wind ensemble or symphonic band. This adaptation is a transcription rather than an arrangement in that every attempt has been made to preserve every possible detail of the original. The only editing which has been made are the addition of limited octave doublings and the addition of bar lines in order to facilitate performance of the freestyle chant sections.

Customer Reviews

"This is a beautiful translation of Biebl's well known choral work for winds. The edition is beautifully published and should be considered a requisite for any serious wind band library."

"Last month I enjoyed hearing the Concordia College Band of Moorhead, Minnesota perform this work. It was moving, artistic, and expressive: an incredible experience for those of us in the audience! I highly recommend this piece for strong high school bands who desire to develop phrasing, expression, and give their audience a lasting memory!"
