Over 30 Premieres in the U.S. this Season (2007-08)

September
The season begins on September 1 with the world premiere of Alexander Platt’s arrangement of David Del Tredici’s Final Alice with the Maverick Chamber Players and soprano Patrice Michaels in Woodstock, NY.
ICE presents the world premiere of Philippe Manoury’s Cruel Spirals at New York City’s Spiegeltent on September 4 with soprano soloist Tony Arnold.
The jazz community honors the late Andrew Hill with a tribute concert at St. Peter’s Church in New York City on September 23.
October
October 8 marks the American premiere of Fausto Romitelli’s Professor Bad Trip, Lesson I with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.
David Del Tredici’s Magyar Madness receives its world premiere on October 9 with David Krakauer and Orion String Quartet at the University of Iowa.
Argento chamber music ensemble presents the world premiere of Ian Wilson’s Cassini Void for clarinet and ten players on October 14 at Carnegie’s Weill Hall.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra presents the world premiere performances of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Chicago Remains on October 25-27 at Chicago’s Symphony Center.
November
In Boston Brett Dean’s violin concerto The Lost Art of Letter Writing receives its American premiere with violinist Frank Peter Zimmerman and the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Markus Stenz on November 1-3.
Also in Boston, the Ma’alot Quintet presents the world premiere of Detlev Glanert’s Déjà vu on November 9.
The Berlin Philharmonic brings Magnus Lindberg’s Seht die Sonne to Carnegie Hall for its U.S. premiere on November 13 (the world premiere having been presented on August 25 in Berlin).
The following night at Carnegie, the Berlin Philharmonic presents the U.S. premiere of Thomas Adès’ Tevot (November 14).
Elliott Carter’s Horn Concerto receives its world premiere in Boston with hornist James Sommerville and the Boston Symphony Orchestra on November 15 with subsequent performances on November 17 and 20.
At Walt Disney Concert Hall on November 18 the Los Angeles Master Chorale presents the world premiere of Louis Andriessen’s “The City of Dis,” part of his opera in five sections entitled La Commedia.
Australian composer Liza Lim’s Shimmer Songs receives its world premiere with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players on November 19.
On November 30 Alarm Will Sound performs the world premiere of John Adams’ Son of Chamber Symphony presented at Stanford Lively Arts in California (with an East Coast premiere by the same performers to follow on February 28 at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall).
December
In celebration of Elliott Carter’s 99th birthday, Miller Theatre will present the New York stage premiere of his opera, What Next? on December 7, 8, 9, and 11.
John Adams’ Doctor Atomic makes its Chicago premiere with the Lyric Opera of Chicago at the Civic Opera House on December 14 and continues to run through January 19.
January
Composer and lead guitarist of rock band Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood’s Popcorn Superhet Receiver receives its U.S. premiere with The Wordless Music Chamber Orchestra at Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City on January 16-17.
February
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra presents the U.S. premiere performances of Steven Mackey’s Time Release in Baltimore on February 7 and 8 before traveling to Carnegie Hall for the New York premiere on February 9. (The Canadian premiere is scheduled for March 26 with the National Arts Centre Orchestra)
Also on February 7 and 8, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra performs the U.S. premiere performances of John Adams’ Doctor Atomic Symphony at Powell Hall before traveling for the New York premiere performance at Carnegie Hall on February 16.
March
Dominick Argento’s Evensong: of Love and Angels receives its world premiere with the Cathedral Choral Society at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on March 2.
Conductor Kent Nagano and the Orchestra Symphonique de Montréal present the world premiere performances of a new work from Unsuk Chin on March 3-4 at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier before the work travels to New York on March 8 for its U.S. premiere at Carnegie Hall.
The Seattle Symphony presents the world premiere of a new commission by Aaron Jay Kernis at Benaroya Concert Hall on March 13 with subsequent performances on March 14, 15, and 16.
April
Elena Kats-Chernin’s Basset Clarinet Concerto receives its world premiere on April 10-12 with soloist Michael Collins and the North Carolina Symphony.
On April 11-13 the Pittsburgh Symphony presents the world premiere performances of Oliver Knussen’s Symphony No. 4 at Heinz Hall.
After performing the world premiere on the University of Richmond campus March 26, Eighth Blackbird performs the New York premiere of Steve Reich’s Double Sextet in collaboration with choreographer Susan Marshall at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall on April 17.
May
Chicago Opera Theater presents the Chicago premiere of John Adams’ A Flowering Tree at Harris Theatre on May 14 with subsequent performances on May 17, 20, 23, 25.
On May 18 the National Symphony Orchestra presents the world premiere of Michael Daugherty’s TROYJAM as part of the NSO Family Series at the Kennedy Center.
On May 23-25 the Los Angeles Philharmonic presents the world premiere of Oliver Knussen’s Cello Concerto with cellist Anssi Karttunen at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Thomas Adès’ Concerto Conciso receives its world premiere on May 27 at Walt Disney Concerto Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group and the work of video artist Tal Rosner.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic also presents the West Coast premiere performances of Colin Matthews’ arrangement of selected Debussy Preludes on May 29 – June 1.
June
On June 5-7 the San Francisco Symphony presents the U.S. premiere performances of Mark Anothony Turnage’s “Juno” and “The Torino Scale” as part of his larger suite Asteroids. (“Ceres” received its U.S. premiere with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on January 4, 2007).
