(January 2011)

The Konserthuset in Stockholm plays host to five days of concerts celebrating Steve Reich's 75th birthday year, featuring the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic, Kroumata, Amadinda and Synergy Vocals.

Steve Reich travels to Stockholm this month for a five-day celebration of his music (26-30 January). The Tonsättarfestivalen at the Konserthuset is the first of a series of festivals and events in 2011 honouring the composer's 75th birthday on 3 October.

Repertoire in Stockholm includes the Swedish premieres of Double Sextet, Mallet Quartet and You Are (Variations), as well as Reich classics such as Drumming, Music for 18 Musicians, Tehillim and Different Trains.

Performers include groups who have specialised in Reich's music including the percussion ensembles Amadinda and Kroumata and the voices of Synergy Vocals, collaborating with musicians from the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic conducted by B Tommy Andersson. Steve Reich opens the festival performing Clapping Music and takes part in a post-concert discussion. Concerts are broadcast on Swedish Radio P2.
