Position Overview
Boosey & Hawkes seeks a Director of Promotion with a recognized knowledge of contemporary music and music of the 20th century to lead promotion strategy within its New York office. The Director of Promotion is responsible for developing and implementing promotion strategy for the company’s North and South American activities, and also plays a key role in composer management and developing commissioning projects. This individual will report to the Vice President of Boosey & Hawkes (New York office), and will also work closely with colleagues in the London and Berlin offices in developing company-wide promotion strategies and will interface with presenters and commissioners, including orchestras, opera and ballet companies. Successful candidates should be articulate, creative and comfortable handling multiple projects simultaneously. The position entails regular attendance at performances and travel to various premieres, festivals, and conventions.

Core Responsibilities
Director of Promotion will:

  • Devise and implement promotion strategies for existing catalogs

    • Oversee creation of digital and print marketing with Manager of Marketing and PR

    • Plan strategic campaigns for anniversaries and other milestones

    • Coordinate mailings and digital promotions

  • Meet with conductors, soloists, and artistic planners to discuss repertoire performance opportunities

  • Pro-actively seek out opportunities for creation of new work

    • Identify partners for commissioning consortiums

    • Negotiate terms with administrators

    • Work with Legal and Business Affairs in creation and execution of agreement

  • Regular interaction with composers and composer estates

  • Attend key performances, premieres, festivals and conventions in New York and throughout North and South America as required
Further Information:


  • College or conservatory degree in music, or equivalent experience in classical music

    • Ability to read music is a must

  • Extensive knowledge of and enthusiasm for contemporary classical music repertoire

  • Minimum of 5 years prior related experience, e.g., arts organization, artist management, etc.

  • Existing contacts within the industry, particularly with major conductors and soloists, artist managers, and artistic administrators.


  • Extroverted, out-going, enthusiastic, creative, self-motivated, team player

  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills

  • Microsoft Word, Excel
