Maria:
Mich stärkte die Sonne,
gab mir die Hoffnung,
gibt mir auch Kraft,
alles zu tragen!
Herrliche Sonne, Sterne der Wahrheit,
hilf ihm mich halten bis in den Tod!

Kommandant:
Maria, Geliebte, sähst du die Sonne?
Zum letztenmal erhellt sie die Schlacht!
Der Turm versinkt in Nichts. Hinab zur Stadt!
Der Arm, der dich hält, umfaßt dich im Grab!

Commandant:
Maria, dearest, have you seen the sun?
It shines on the battle for the very last time.
The keep will be destroyed. Go into the town!
