The composer, conductor and pianist Francisco J. Núñez is the founder and artistic director of the award winning The Young People’s Chorus of New York City in residence at the 92nd Street Y, an ensemble of over 300 youth of exceptional caliber that has performed over 500 concerts and premiered over 40 new works worldwide and garnered international prizes including 1st place in children’s choir division at the 2002 Kathaumixw international chorus competition in British Columbia. Mr. Núñez also serves as the conductor of the University Glee Club of New York City a 150-member male chorus founded in 1896.

As a composer, his compositions and arrangements for chorus, orchestra and solo instruments are inspired by a wide gamut of Latin cultures and musical idioms have earned him world-wide acclaim. As the St. John’s Telegram in Newfoundland wrote recently, "The gifted Mr. Núñez brings Spanish text to perfection." His works have attracted leading soloists and ensembles, such as pianist Hu Hwang, who premiered Mr. Núñez’s piano suite Musings at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, and the Bialystok State Orchestra, that premiered Núñez’s Three Dominican Folk Songs in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Jonathan Griffith. He was featured on NPR for his collaboration with Earnestine Rodgers Robinson on their debut performance of a new oratorio "The Nativity" premiered in December 2001 in Carnegie Hall.

He has received numerous commissions including Disneyworld, The Phoenix Boy’s Choir, the Austin ProChorus, the Oklahoma All-State Chorus, and the Ithaca College Women’s Chorale, who recently recorded all of Mr. Núñez’s choral works.

In 2001, Mr. Núñez embarked on an ambitious annual concert series at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. The concerts, which are aired on public radio, features the premieres of newly commissioned works by some of the world’s leading composers including John Tavener, Michael Torke, Steven Mackey, Michael Nyman, David Del Tredici, Dominick Argento among others. The concert series, entitled "Transient Glory" is partnered with a new Choral Series, under the same name, through Boosey & Hawkes Publishing and the

Transient Glory CD under Vital Records. This unique concert concept sets the stage for new works to be adopted by leading youth ensembles worldwide. Mr. Núñez is a leading figure in music and music education and has given numerous lectures and appears as guest conductor for national and regional and state ensembles. Each summer he acts as composer-in-residence and artist teacher with Janet Galvan at Ithaca College and for Doreen Rao’s Choral Music Experience Institute at leading universities throughout the country. For eight years he was Director of Music for the Children’s Aid Society in New York City, he also served as artistic advisor to the General Consulate of the Dominican Republic to America, Director of Choral Activities at Ramapo College in New Jersey, and for two years conducted the National Young People’s Chorus at Carnegie Hall sponsored by Mid-America Productions. Most recently, he was invited to conduct the first annual All-City Public School Teacher Honor Chorus, which included over 1000 teachers citywide accompanied by members of the New York Philharmonic and sponsored by the NYC Board of Education.

Mr. Núñez studied piano with Seymour Bernstein and Sergie Edelman at New York University where her completed his undergraduate studies. He studied composition with Nils Vigeland, Ursula Mamlok and Morton Gould. He is the recipient of numerous City, State and National awards for his music and his work with young people including, the Presidential National Arts and Humanities, the WINS 1010AM Radio, New York Newsday and the Big Apple Parent Paper hero of the week, the Young Virtuosos International Award, 100-year Club annual award and The Dominican Classical Artists Award. Most recently, Mr. Núñez was featured in Latina magazine as a role model for Latin Americans.
