Christopher Rouse is known for orchestral scores that possess a driving, sometimes brutal energy * In recent years, a new current of lyricism has emerged in his music * His scores have been performed by every major orchestra in the U.S. and an increasing number in Europe and Asia * Champions include conductors Alan Gilbert, David Robertson, Leonard Slatkin, Marin Alsop, and David Zinman * Winner of the 1993 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his Trombone Concerto and a Grammy (Best Contemporary Composition, 2002) for his guitar concerto, Concert de Gaudí * Among soloists, noted interpreters include Emanuel Ax, Evelyn Glennie, Sharon Isbin, Yo-Yo Ma, and Dawn Upshaw

Der Gerettete Alberich (1997) for solo percussion and orchestra
Flute Concerto (1993) for flute and orchestra
Phaethon (1986) for orchestra
Odna Zhizn (2009) for orchestra
Compline (1996) for flute, clarinet, harp, and string quartet

Looking Ahead:
Christopher Rouse continues his tenure as the New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence through the 2013–2014 season. On April 17, the orchestra presents the premiere of a new work, Prospero's Rooms, and will tour the work by way of Turkey, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria under the baton of Alan Gilbert in May. * In June, pianist Emanuel Ax joins the orchestra in performances of Rouse's piano concerto, Seeing. * Der geretette Alberich, Rouse's percussion concerto based on Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, receives performances around the world throughout the Spring and Summer, featuring percussionists Evelyn Glennie and Colin Currie, in cities from Baltimore (April 18–21) to Düsseldorf (June 21–24) to São Paulo (August 22–25).
