Erhard Grosskopf studied in various subjects (medicine, mathematics, church music) and composition studies with Ernst Pepping and Boris Blacher, then taught for two years at the Berlin conservatory * 1965-70 organized concerts with the Gruppe Neue Musik Berlin * Freelance composer since 1966 * In 1966/67 and 1977 won a scholarship to the Villa Massimo, Rome * In the late sixties, he began to incorporate serial, modal as well as tonal techniques and constellations in his music * 1978 initiated and has since directed the concert series 'Insel Musik' in Berlin * 1982-92 invitations to the International Summer Courses for New Music, Darmstadt * Since 1994 member of the Academy of the Arts, Berlin * His compositions are based on 'loops', ie recorded looping patterns which overlap and generate harmonic constellations in a multi-layered time process
