Composer, pianist and conductor Leon Gurvitch was born 1979 in Minsk (Belarus) * writes and plays music with roots in the classical tradition, with influences from russian folk music, oriental and latin-american music as well as Jazz and Klezmer * counts Stravinsky, Ravel, Shostakovich, Bartók, Prokofieff, Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein and Dave Brubeck among his models * learnt violin, piano and oboe, and studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Music and the Hamburg Conservatory * aged 19 he founded his first Jazz band * composes symphonic works, chamber, vocal and film music, and for solo piano * CD releases at Morgenland/Naxos and Centaur Records * since 2001 lives in Hamburg and is professor at the Johannes Brahms Conservatory * was artist in residence with the David Oppenheim Music Center/Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York City, in 2016 * gave his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2017 * collaborates with Peter Zadek, musicians of Hamburg State Opera and of NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, of Frankfurt Chamber Philharmonic and Berlin Camerata * as a performer he loves improvisation and spontaneity
