1964-68 - Principal conductor of the Bonn Opera

1969-72 - General Music Director in Kiel

1971-84 - Principal conductor of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra

1984-87 - General Music Director in Hamburg and General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera

1987-90 - Principal conductor of the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra Principal guest conductor of the Opéra National, Brussels

since 1988 - Professorship in composition at the ‘Hochschule für Musik’ in Frankfurt

since 1999 - Permanent guest conductor and member of the artistic board of the SWR Symphony Orchestra

2005/2006 - Composer in residence with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin

International guest activities as conductor; television projects and numerous recordings (so the Zender-Edition with cpo)
