Get it recorded by somebody

Both songwriters and composers earn money if their compositions are recorded by somebody else, and in the case of the pop world, often make more money than the bands performing the songs. This is because they receive performance and mechanical royalties, as well as money from any versions recorded by other acts. In some cases, a relatively unknown songwriter can earn more money from a famous band covering a song, than they ever did through their own recordings. If a composer’s piece is recorded by an orchestra and released on CD, then the same type of royalties will apply.
