Barbara Kolb

Barbara Kolb has created a contemporary form of Impressionism: instead of mathematical structures, it is poetic and visual images which inspire her pieces, as in her orchestral work Grisaille (named for the painting technique) - and indeed she has even composed a number of works in which performers "confront their own images on tape". The result is distinctively turbulent yet sensual, with atonal harmony and intense climaxes.
