Ole Schmidt, conductor, composer

About
Ole Schmidt (b. 1928) is internationally known as a conductor, but since his debut in 1955 he has also made a significant name for himself as a composer. Ole Schmidt has musical roots in both Neoclassicism and the playful freedom of jazz. His music has strength and vitality and clearly reveals a fertile imagination. This collection of solo concertos displays the full spectrum of Schmidt’s compositional skills in the hands of today’s most gifted Danish wind soloists.

Reviews
AMERICAN GRAMMY 2006
Ulla Miilmann nominated in the category Best Instrumental Soloist Performance

There are several remarkable things about this release. The recording quality is astounding. The 4 concertos themselves are very rewarding in their wide range and musical content and the superb playing which is beyond criticism. (SA-CD.net)

(Dansk Musik Tidsskrift)

There is much enjoyable music in all four works, splendidly performed in first-rate sound.
(Nordic Sounds)

There´s a likeness to Edward Gregson´s wind concerti at times: and that, meaning tunefullness, idiomatic writing and lively ideas, is a compliment indeed.
(Robert Beale, Manchester Evening News)

Virile recording quality...wonderfully provocative writing deeply harnessed to romantic models but breathing a wholly comtemperary ozone. (Musicweb International)
