The season 2005/06 marks the end of an era at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. It is Zubin Mehta's last as Music Director.

In this live recording of his inaugural concert at the National Theatre in Munich in 1998, Zubin directs a group of soloists and the Bavarian state Opera Chorus and Orchestra in a programme of sacred music dating from three different periods: the Baroque, the Classical and the Romantic. The final work showcases him once again as an ardent admirer of Verdi, living up to his motto that "You can’t grow up without Verdi!".

This DVD refers to one of the most famous conductors of our days and is a homage to his devotion to the Bavarian State Opera.
