Michel van der Aa introduces his new 3D film opera Sunken Garden, performed by English National Opera at the Barbican Theatre in London in April and staged at the Holland Festival in June. Also appearing are singer Roderick Williams and Pierre Audi of the Holland Festival.

The opera combines music and film by Michel van der Aa, libretto by David Mitchell - author of Cloud Atlas - with singers and chamber orchestra. The work explores 3D technology both in its subject matter and its stage presentation. A filmmaker is creating a documentary about mysterious disappearances but gets caught in an occult web leading to the 'sunken garden'.

Sunken Garden is a co-commission by English National Opera and the Barbican, the Holland Festival, Toronto Luminato Festival and Opéra de Lyon.
