Einojuhani Rautavaara b. 1928

RautavaaraSq.jpg
Einojuhani Rautavaara is the leading Finnish composer of his generation. In recent decades he has cultivated the mystical character of his Romantic style, and has composed a series of orchestral works inspired by metaphysical and religious subjects, including his “best-selling” Symphony No.7 (Angel of Light).

"It is my belief that music is great if, at some moment, the listener catches 'a glimpse of eternity through the window of time'... This, to my mind, is the only true justification for art. All else is of secondary importance." — Einojuhani Rautavaara
