Presidential Inaugural Soundtrack: Copland, Marsalis, D'Rivera, Papoulis

As the United States prepares to welcome its 44th president to office, inaugural ceremonies and celebrations come together with an unbeatable soundtrack including Aaron Copland, Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D'Rivera, and Jim Papoulis.

Sunday, January 18 :: Opening Celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural
2:30 p.m. - The Lincoln Memorial

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) presents “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,” with President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice President-Elect Joe Biden.

Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait and Fanfare for the Common Man will be performed by a 55-piece joint Armed Services Orchestra (combining members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine orchestras), and the US Army Herald Trumpets. Tom Hanks has been confirmed as the speaker for Lincoln Portrait.

Other performers scheduled for the event include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Bono, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Heather Headley, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, will.i.am and Stevie Wonder.  Among those reading historical passages will be Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington. 

This event is free and open to the public. HBO will exclusively televise the program on Sunday, January 18 (7:00-8:30 p.m. ET/PT).

Monday, January 19 :: “A Celebration of America” by Jazz at Lincoln Center
7:00 pm - The Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater

Jazz at Lincoln Center and The Rockefeller Foundation present “A Celebration of America” on the occasion of the Presidential Inauguration and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Wynton Marsalis and former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor share the stage with a select group of celebrated artists whose repertoire selections will support the discussion about the values of civil society and the principles of democracy that jazz embodies. Participating artists include Paquito D’Rivera with Diego Urcola, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Bela Fleck, Cassandra Wilson, Chorale Le Chateau of New York City conducted by Damien Sneed, Dave Brubeck, Dianne Reeves, Don Vappie, Dr. Michael White, Foxborough (MA) High School Jazz Ensemble, Francesco Cafiso, Freddy Cole, Giovanni Hidalgo, Grace Kelly, Herlin Riley, Jared Grimes, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Jessye Norman, Jonathan Batiste, Lucian Barberin, Marcus Gilmore, Mark O’Connor, Odadaa! with Yacub Addy, Alex Brown, Oscar Stagnaro, Mark Walker, Roy Haynes, and Shannon Powell.

Wynton Marsalis's compositions "I Am (Don't You Run From Me)" (from All Rise) and "'Ajeseke/Jookin' - 'Mysterious Fish'”  (from Congo Square) will be performed.

Tuesday, January 20 :: Inauguration Ceremony
11:30 a.m. - West front of the U.S. Capitol

The San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus performs a number of works at the inauguration ceremony, including Jim Papoulis's Give Us Hope. Other music for the ceremony includes a performance by Aretha Franklin, a number of marches performed by "The President’s Own" United States Marine Band, and a piece by John Williams for Itzhak Perlman (violin), Yo-Yo Ma  (cello), Gabriela Montero (piano) and Anthony McGill (clarinet).

Viewing from the National Mall is free and open to the public.
