These three fugues have been taken from 'The Art of Fugue' that Bach composed between 1749 and 1750. The work was, sadly, left unfinished at the time of his death, but still represents one of the greatest examples of this most demanding type of contrapuntal writing. As no instrumentation was specified in either the autograph or the first edition, it is just as appropriate to perform on trumpets as any other instruments.
