Armstrong, Kathy - Ghana Alleluia

  
Ghana Alleluia is from the slow section of a larger recreational piece of the Ewe of Ghana called Bobobo. A rich texture of singing, dancing, and drumming, Bobobo means "get down" or "bend down,"  and refers to the style of dancing. This piece is a mixture of traditional and Christian musical ideas and text.



When notating any aural tradition, it is impossible to present a definitive version of a piece such as Bobobo. Ther are as many interpretations of these songs (melody, text, meaning) as there are performers of Ewe music. This arrangement reflects my own experiences over the last twelve years as a student, performer and teacher of his music.
