'Handbuch der Chorleitung' contains profound and scientifically supported arguments for all choir conductors as to why people should sing in a choir and how self-enriching singing in a choir can be. It is a guide to sensible concert planning and organization as well as successful choir management. It deals with all central artistic issues in great detail, from proper conducting via effective rehearsing methods to intense musical interpretation, productive, yet pleasant voice training, the dramatic composition of a successful choir rehearsal and the preparation of choral pieces with instrumental accompaniment. Hans-Günther Bastian has been professor of music education and systematic musicology at the universities of Bonn, Paderborn and Frankfurt/Main since 1980. He gave lectures at choir directors' conferences of the Deutscher Sängerbund and was a jury member at several national choir competitions.Wilfried Fischer has been professor of music education with primary focus on the artistic practice of music lessons including choral conducting at the Flensburg Pädagogische Hochschule as well as at the universities of Cologne and Paderborn since 1972.
