Following the Beethoven box, with its juxtaposition of classical and contemporary works, the current CD with Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks again features an encounter between music from different epochs. In the "Symphonie fantastique" Mariss Jansons, Chief Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, investigates the dream worlds of the Romantic movement, and in "Ionisation" by Edgard Varèse transforms complex structures into an event of sensual immediacy. Both these works were important starting-points for the dawn of a new musical age.
