Michel Blavet (1700-1768) was the first flautist to enjoy a truly international reputation. His playing set new musical standards through Europe, and was especially valued for its brilliance, its ravishing beauty of tone and purity of intonation. While Blavet was one of the first flute composers to write in the new sonata style derived from Italy, this book combines that style with elements of the traditional suite favoured by his predecessors, La Barre and Hotteterre le Romain.
