PER NØRGÅRD
Orchestral Works
Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra

Rebecca Hirsch, violin

Per Nørgård, composer
Giordano Bellincampi, conductor

About
The famous Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache once said: “Only the consciousness of the future in the new millennium will be able to fully understand the powers of Per Nørgård’s music”. Indeed, Per Nørgård (b. 1932) unlocks new perceptions and a new awareness of the world with his music, and he has made an impact as the leading Danish composer of his time thanks not least to his orchestral works.

This Dacapo CD presents three milestones of Nørgård’s work, starting with the breakthrough work Voyage into the Golden Screen from 1968, composed in accordance with Nørgård’s unique ’infinity principle’. In Dream Play (1975), Per Nørgård demonstrates the loving aspects of humanity, whereas disaster looms in the world of the violin concerto Borderlines (2002), and Dacapo proudly presents this recent work of Nørgård’s in the excellent hands of British violinist Rebecca Hirsch.

Reviews
CRITIC'S CHOICE 2004 - GRAMOPHONE

This is the work of a major creative presence - and if the music of today is to have any tomorrow, Nørgård will surely be a part of it.

This recording is successful in all aspects ... The quality of both music and music-making ensures an unreserved recommendation
(Intenational Records Review, UK)

This magnificently produced disc is a must for all Nørgård fans ... A most welcome release

What a marvellous player Rebecca Hirsch is
(Nottingham Evening Post)

A sound-world that shimmers like mother-of-pearl, unfolds like a fan, and in this fine performance achieves dramatic expansive force. A must for Nørgård fans.
(Politiken)

Higher powers are at work here. The orchestral sound is the most romantic, exotic and powerful in living memory. What an experience!
(Berlingske Tidende)

This is a splendid disc of challenging but very beautiful music by a composer with a recognizably personal idiom...The sonics are simply perfect, ideally placing the orchestra in a warmly natural perspective. This is one of the best contemporary music discs to come along in quite a while. Very highly recommended.
