Brewbaker, Daniel - I Shall Imagine

  
"I shall imagine" exudes a joyous self-confidence in the miracle of being alive, unperturbed by the vagaries of human perception of what is beautiful. The poet tells us that although human reason can talk itself into believing the opposite of what is naturally apparent to the pure of heart, (i.e., the rose). However, that which is truly beautiful can feel content and happy with the very possession of it's own beauty, whether or not it is apparent to others. We best appreciate the preciousness of life by seeing and celebrating it's beauty, and our own, rather than finiding reasons to be unhappy.



The first phrase states, and the second phrase emphasizes and completes this thought with the natural exuberance of a young person walking and whistling down the street after school on a Friday afternoon. Rather than being upset by the tendency of those not possessing this natural joy to misunderstand and/or misrepresent it, it is much better just to smile and enjoy it!

A friend of mine who is a devotee of bluegrass music once said to me enthusiastically "This is foot-stompin' music!" I agree!
