This musical work, Moderato and Nocturne is from the rejected work Sonatina Romantica (1940). Although Britten himself rejected the whole work, his Trustees felt that the first 2 movements (the Moderato And Nocturne) have both 'character and charm' and could play an inportant and useful role in teaching pieces.
