Designed as a showcase for the symphonic band, this work is cast in a contemporary style using polychords as a harmonic base. The opening theme is declamatory in nature, similar in style to a fanfare. The slow middle section is rich with extended harmonies and flowing melodic lines. This is a truly significant composition by one of America's most creative composers. (Grade 4)
