A collection of easier Christmas-themes pieces for the beginner string quartet. Score and parts provided.
Published by Faber Music.

'This is a set of eight of our best-loved Christmas carols, delightfully arranged. It is full of helpful tips such as warning, 'arco next' and 'pizz next' during rests, or to count carefully, over a tied note. Bars rests are counted out in the approved manner (one234/two234 etc). There are plenty of opportunities for audience participation with stamping of boots asked for, and shouting 'what do you want!' and 'go away!' in We Wish you a Merry Christmas. The mood of each carol is set with a sentence to be read and discussed, and there are many effects asked for ponticello playing (to make an icy-sound), harmonics, col legno, strumming, and opportunities to improvise (howling wind). Where a lead is needed from a player, it is specified, and the other parts marked 'look for a new lead'. The content is divided equally between the players. The parts are very clearly printed, with bar numbers, no fingering, and only essential bowing. This music is highly imaginative, and a very exciting start for young chamber music ethusiasts. If you have young pupils, this is a music for their school Christmas Concert, and to play on Christmas Day at home!'
