Trio 'Cascades'

Volume two of CPO’s exploration of George Onslow’s Piano Trios features two trios from different stages of the composer’s life. Onslow's late Trio op. 83 from the 1850s, which seems to have been his last composition, is distinguished from his earlier trios by its length, its lyricism, and the depth of its themes occasionally reminiscent of Mendelssohn. Trio op. 3 was written much earlier and is clearly influenced by the musical language of Beethoven. Both trios demonstrate that the rediscovery of Onslow’s music is long overdue.

As on Vol. 1, the Trio Cascades from Cologne takes charge of this refreshing and charming interpretation of music.
