The eight pieces are all well crafted, with underlying jazz roots, butemploying more sophisticated compositional techniques...Throughout,there is great, engaging counterpoint, a down-home bluesy feel that issometimes missing in more composed-out jazz pieces, and a harmonicand melodic freedom that is rare among published jazz material...Any ofthese duos would also work well on a recital program, alone or combinedas a suite.
