About
When the bicentenary of the birth of the Danish fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen was celebrated in 2005, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR and its chief conductor Thomas Dausgaard were at the forefront with a magnificent musical celebration. This CD release testifies to the meeting between Andersen’s immortal storytelling art and the two Late Romantic composers August Enna and Alexander von Zemlinsky, who drew musical inspiration around 1900 from two of the storyteller’s best loved tales.

Alexander von Zemlinsky´s ravishing tone poem and the one-act opera by August Enna...make an imaginative release to mark the bicentenary of Hans Christian Andersen´s birth...Thomas Dausgaard conducts it with with all the affection it needs, and his performance of the richly tectured Zemlinsky...is equally enthusiastic.
