The songs of Stephen Foster linger with us today, gracefully reminding us of gentler times past. His output of popular melodies in the mid 1800s was prodigious, and today these same songs are considered to be folk themes. One of his most beautiful compositions is the lovely ballad 'I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,' which lends itself to romantic harmonization. (Grade 2)
