There's no way around it: all musicians have to practice their whole life long. Yet very few musicians confront this "necessary evil" and give it much serious thought. One might say that practicing has not been made practicable for the musical practician... In his "Handbuch Üben," the experienced music teacher Ulrich Mahlert has brought together a number of reputable authors from the performing arts and neighboring disciplines who are more than familiar with the joys and problems of practicing. Their essays have given rise to an important book that is rich in details on a topic that is often perplexing and always timely. The concise subtitle "Fundamentals. Concepts. Methods." is programmatic, for the book seeks to convey impulses for pleasurable and fruitful practicing. In the best of cases, individually adjusted practicing can contribute to self-perception, self-criticism and personal development. The book has fulfilled its purpose if this goal is reached. One can only hope that this volume will become a standard work for everyone who practices!
