Song Cycle: vive la vélorution! was commissioned by the York-based Chapter House Choir to mark the grand départ of the Tour de France 2014. Composed for massed SATB choirs and jazz quintet, the 45-minute work comprises ten songs (including eight originals) on the subject of cycling and the great outdoors. It is great fun for any choir to perform. The songs range from funky, rhythmically-driven numbers to beautiful, folk-style ballads, to entertaining descriptions of the early bicycle, to new takes on much-loved classics such as Daisy Daisy - the singers are even required to add to the percussion by playing bicycle bells and pumps!

The work received its premiere in York Minster on the 28 June as part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014. It was performed by over 400 singers from across Yorkshire, the Chapter House Choir and The Call Me Al Quintet, led by Alexander L'Estrange, all conducted by Stephen Williams.
