About
A religious mystery opera. A magnificent doomsday vision. A full length nightmare. This SACD production of Rued Langgaard´s allegorical opera Antikrist witnesses the spectacular Danish co-production by the Royal Danish Opera and the Danish Broadcasting Corporation from 2002. No pains are spared as the composer’s revelation unfolds with its intriguing allegorical characters and its powerful statement about the moral decay of modernity.

RECORDING OF THE MONTH
Music and vision

Antikrist receives an outstanding performance with fully committed singers ... This production reveals Antikrist as a formidable modern opera which deserves to be widely known.
(La Scena Musicale, Canada)

The excellent soloists and accompanying chorus and orchestra under conductor Thomas Dausgaard deliver what must be a definitive performance of Antikrist.
(Classical Lost and Found)

Interpreted with total commitment by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under Thomas Dausgaard ... Antikrist is a powerful work, gripping equally to hear and watch.

(Kristeligt Dagblad)

En märkligt fängslande upplevelse.
(Svenska Dagbladet)

Opsætningen er i al sin enkelthed fascinerende.
(* * * * * Flensborg Avis).

Best of all though is the orchestral contribution, suberply delivered under Thomas Dausgaard´s strong direction...
(Nordic Sounds).

(***** Nondis, Das Nordeuropa - Magazin).

Dacapo´s presentation is exemplary, with a series of essays to fill in the genesis and "fate" of this unique opera, its "characters" and "action", history and "vibrant background" plus, off cause the full libretto in Danish, German and English, all printed with admirable clarity for easy reading and following.
(Musical Pointers)

(Musikeren, 10/2006)

The orchestra under Thomas Dausgaard plays magnificently, and if you didn't get the DVD, or even if you did but want to hear the music in even more opulent sound, then this hybrid SACD is certainly the way to go.

Ingen bør snyde sig selv for denne meget store oplevelse!
(High Fidelity 01/2007)
