Players of all abilities rely on a combination of embouchure control and breathing to play legato. A true legato is very difficult to produce and requires constant practice in the form of flexibility exercises from the earliest stages of playing. These flexibility exercises are grouped into eight graded steps which gradually extend both the range and degree of flexibility required. A warm up routine precedes each group of exercises.
