Bohuslav Martinù’s second concerto for violin and orchestra is one of his most performed and most popular compositions. His other works for solo violin and orchestra were not nearly as fortunate. The piece was written in America during two months in 1943, on the request of the violinist Mischa Elman. It successfully premiered in Boston that same year. The current edition of the piano score was edited by Karel Solc, the violin part was revised by Bruno Belcík.
