'''Tres piezas para guitarra'' is a collection of three works for classical guitar by the young composer, Arkadiusz A. Niezgody. The composer, in this cycle, clearly reveals his innovative treatment of the instrument. Opening the collection, and the longest position, is Recuerdos de California (Spanish for Memories of California, 5'25'') which was written under the inspiration of the composer's life in California. Saturated with melodies and beautiful phrases described as dolce, sognando, embedded in rounded arpeggio figures ritmico con nobile, gives this work an exceptional atmosphere. Menuet, the second in the collection, is only given the description, ''Nobile'', with a simple and transparent texture. It is a kind of link between the surrounding works and allows one to take a breath before the very energetic and cheerful Danza Studa, in the tempo Allegrissimo con delizia. The latter has techniques never seen before in guitar music, leading to a combination of various musical styles, sometimes distant from each other. There are rasgueados, characteristic for Spanish guitar music, with phrases that are treated in a very interesting rhythmical manner, in the jazz style, sometimes implying through its expression the style of rock mixed with funk. Crowning the work, and also the cycle, is a humurous repetition of a short phrase in the articulation leggierissimo ma espressivo. Tres Piezas Para Guitarra sound superb in a chamber setting and also on the large philharmonic stage. On the author's album Recuerdos de California (Soliton 2011) we can hear the mentioned works performed by the composer. Here is Niezgody's comment regarding Recuerdos de California: ''it's my attempt to transcribe nature into the organisation of sounds called music. If even a few drops of the ocean and a bit of its salty, choppy foam have been cast by me in this composition, which I give with great pleasure into the hands of lovers of guitar music this will surely embrace me with an immense sense of satisfaction.''
