"These are excellent and entertaining songs where the lyrical and beautiful lines help to obscure the strange and somewhat off-beat texts. One is left feeling that you have heard innocent love songs when in fact they are all a little strange - to say the least! As an accompanist I find them very rewarding to perform. I thoroughly enjoy Poulenc's excellent idiomatic writing for the piano and it is almost without question, that his understanding of the human voice was inspired. What a pity these songs are so hard to come by."
