Prokofiev composed his ballet Cinderella between 1940-1944. At the same time, he also extracted three sets of pieces from the work, transcribed them for Piano and assigned them each a separate Opus number. Opus 97 focuses mainly on the lighter and shorter aspects of Cinderella.
