Knudåge Riisager, composer

Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra
Ars Nova Copenhagen

Knudåge Riisager studied in Paris in the 1920s and became a pioneer of the Neo-Classicist style in Danish music. The orchestral works on this CD are from the 1930s and the beginning of the 104+s, and they show Riisager both as a composer inspired by the Neo-Baroque and as an exponent of a decidedly Danish sound.

The Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra plays brilliantly for Thomas Dausgaard

This will be a must for brass aficionados
(International Record Review)

"Riisager is one of those 'minor masters' who, when I hear his music, makes me ask two questions: Where has this guy been hiding, and what else has he written?" (WHRO-FM, Virginia)

Recorded in the Concert House, Helsingborg, on 2-6 June 1997

Recording producer: Michael Petersen
